Ali Irshad, MD, FACS, RPVI

Ali Irshad, MD, FACS, RPVI is a dual-trained cardiac and vascular surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery at a quaternary medical center. His career has been shaped by the care of complex cardiovascular disease, spanning academic medicine, clinical research, and advanced surgical training in the United States and Europe. His areas of expertise include complex aortic and aortic valve surgery, heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, cardiac transplantation, and the broader care of patients with advanced cardiovascular disease.

His training has taken him from Houston Methodist, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and the Texas Heart Institute to advanced work in aortic surgery and valve reconstruction at Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc in Brussels. He was also an AATS Denton A. Cooley Fellow, working with leaders in complex aortic and cardiac surgery.

Beyond the operating room, Dr. Irshad has longstanding interests in philosophy, history, language, and the intellectual traditions that have shaped medicine across civilizations. Ars Longa grew from the conviction that medicine is more than the treatment of disease. It is also an encounter with mortality, suffering, uncertainty, meaning, and the fundamental question of what it means to be human.

Through Ars Longa Ventures and the Ars Longa podcast, he seeks to bring these worlds together: medicine and the humanities, science and philosophy, technical progress and the enduring human condition.
